LET'S TRAVEL! Dissh takes on China

Every six months, our very talented production team heads to China in search of new and exciting fabrics and trimmings for upcoming collections. This July, our incredible Production Manager, Courtney made the trek to Guangzhou, China to get us Spring/Summer 19 ready. With just four days jam-packed with market visits (there’s not a lot of sight-seeing going on during these trips), find out what our girl got up to while her automatic replies were on and she was OUT-OF-OFFICE.

7AM -  It’s wake up time. Looking out my window, I see blue skies and greenery. China is working really hard to reduce the smog, and it seems to be working!

8:30AM -  I wonder down to the buffet breakfast and it is definitely the best buffet breakfast we have had in China. There is a full westernised buffet menu (hello hash browns!) AND a traditional Chinese menu. Of course I go for eggs and toast + a chocolate croissant for dessert, it would be rude not to eat from the breakfast dessert bar… and also #treatyourself.

9AM – Maree (owner of DISSH) and I set out our action plan for the day ahead. We plan to go to all of our favourite print shops. These are the hardest for our suppliers to source, so we’ll tackle them first and place our orders. I can’t wait to see all of their new prints, hopefully there are some WINNERS!

9:10AM -  We start trip to the Zhongda Fabric Market. The next 20 minutes of driving is crazy, to say the least. The traffic and driving is pretty terrifying… but we make it there in one piece.

9:30AM - We arrive at Zhonga Fabric Markets and off we go! 8 hours of nonstop fabric and trimmings shopping. We ended up going into some shops that we haven’t been to before and picked up some great new prints.

5:30PM - We are heading back to the hotel for a long shower and put up our tired feet. We’re staying at the W Hotel, which is AH-MA-ZING.

6:30PM – Dinner and drinks in the hotel’s Japanese restaurant to celebrate a successful first day at the markets!

9PM – Calling it early for a big sleep to refuel for the next big day of fabric hunting!

7:30AM: Another day and another market is on the schedule!

8AM: More goodies from the buffet this morning… doubling up on the hash browns and dessert this morning #noragrats.

8:20AM: We go through all of the fabrics we picked up the previous day and see if we’ve missed anything. This becomes today’s agenda!

8:30AM: Another day, another traffic jam.

9AM: Today we continue the search for our key prints for the season. We also start looking at plain fabrics for Spring/ Summer 19.

6PM: We’re officially done for the day and we’re picked up in another slick car and taken back to the hotel… I am getting a little too used to this travelling in style business.

7PM: We have dinner at the W hotel buffet tonight and again, straight to bed #foodcoma.

8AM: Straight to the breakfast buffet and then off the markets for another day of searching!

8:30AM: Today we are in search of any gaps in our fabric selections or shops that we may have missed so far. Also looking for dressier fabrics for the party season ahead!

5:30PM: Another day down, another suitcase filled of fabric.

7:00PM: It’s Saturday night, so Maree and I head to the nearby Irish pub for some drinks while we discuss our plan of attack for our final day of markets!

6:30AM: Early wake up this morning to pack up the fabric swatches covering my hotel room floor! So many good new fabrics I can’t wait to show the rest of the team and of course, YOU!

8AM: Final day of breakfast heaven, making the most of the buffet before I return home to my 90 second oats.

8:30AM: Today we are picking up any last minute fabrics we love. We’re looking at the accessories too – you will seriously find every single colour and type of button, belt, zipper and pom poms you could EVER imagine here #heaven.

5PM: 4 suitcases in tow, we’re all done and dusted! Suitcases packed full of samples and straight to Guangzhou International Airport for the trip home. Traffic again – gahhhhhh! I won’t miss this! It takes us 2.5 hours to go just 20km.

9:20PM:  I am finally on the plane, eyemask on ready for some much needed sleep!
